Hello Providence! I am so thrilled to be starting my new role as director for the preschool. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know the church staff members! I have loved every minute of my past three years at Providence working as a K4 and Kindergarten teacher.
This will be my first year to not have a classroom of my own, but I feel grateful for the opportunity to help impact the learning environment for all of Providence's children.
My husband, Jarrod, and I have been living in Piedmont for the past five years. We moved here from Texas (where I taught in public school for eight years) and are loving the Upstate! We have two girls, Tessa and Trenna. They will both be attending school at Wren Elementary in the fall.
It is an honor to serve as Providence Preschool's new director! Enjoy your summer, and starting in September feel free to stop by during preschool hours anytime you want! You can always find a baby to hold, a child to read to or even a teacher to smile with.
It happens every year.
Easter passes, with all of its glorious music and beautiful lilies. The temperatures warm to shorts and swimsuit levels.
And the crowd in church on Sunday … dwindles … drops … evaporates. And we all nod our heads and say, “Yes, it happens every year like this.” “Yes, attendance always drops off after Easter.” “Yes, you know, people are traveling during the summer.”
Just because “it happens every year,” is that what we want? Is it okay? Should it matter?
Our Book of Order speaks eloquently about the call of membership in the Church of Christ. “A faithful member bears witness to God’s love and grace and promises to be involved responsibly in the ministry of Christ’s Church” (G-1.0304). But what does it mean “to be involved”?
Involvement means sharing the joyful news of Christ’s saving work.
Involvement means praying for one another, caring for one another, supporting one another.
Involvement means reading the Word of God and studying the issues that surround the Christian life of faith.
Involvement means serving others.
Involvement means working for peace, justice and freedom.
Involvement means reviewing our membership and considering ways in which we might strengthen and deepen our participation in worship and service. Involvement means showing up. It means worshipping together as children of God. It means engaging in life with other members of the faith.
How involved are you in the Church of Jesus Christ?
What a great month April has been. ShalomFest was an excellent opportunity to learn about Jewish culture and worship. We had the opportunity to observe a Jewish wedding and Passover. And of course there were delicious foods to sample and even a magic show to watch. And the Sam Burchfield concert at St Giles was super. We look forward to our next opportunity to see him again!
Be sure to update your calendar for other events and we would love to have other members of our church family join us for the fun!
