The summer break is almost over for a lot of us, and school is just around the corner. Back to school supplies can be very costly, and some families in our community are not able to provide some needed supplies for their children. If you are able, please help them out by purchasing notebooks, pencils, and other supplies and place them in the bins by the sanctuary.
Once school begins, we will hand them out to the local schools to give to those that need them. We did this last year, and it was a huge success that was appreciated by a lot of families.
Thank you for everything you have done for our community. Matthew Campbell |

We have been busy planning our fall kick-off event. Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 23rd at 11:00 AM when we will have our PPW (Providence Presbyterian Women) luncheon. We are delighted that Ann Broom will be our speaker for this event. The Bible Study this year is “Jubilee! Luke’s Gospel to the Poor.” This looks like an interesting and enriching study. |

“Sometimes, during my early-morning meditation, a place within me opens and parts of myself let go that I did not even know were holding on.

Thursday of last week I was going to Columbia and passed a man on the road with car issues. It was hot; he was on the interstate, and out of gas. Do you ever feel like that….not just in your automobile, but in your life? It is when we get to this point of life that God gives us an injection of a miracle drug…a drug called grace. Grace is the fuel that keeps our souls humming and running, doing the things we need to, even in the midst of turmoil and problems, rebellious children, mean-spirited people and sometimes just plain life… |

Lord, I Got a Young Preacher Here |
|
Andrew Florio, our pastor in nomination, and I spent over an hour talking about what a great and blessed church is here at Providence. I listened to Drew’s excitement about life in general and ministry in particular. My mind turned back to a time when at the same age as Drew is now, I accepted a call to a church much like Providence. What an astonishing range of emotions – full of myself and at the same time, humbled – excited and scared witless – prepared and uncertain.
There was on the Session of that church an ornery old elder who, as a veteran of World War I, had seen too much pain and bloodshed to be casually agreeable about anything. In short, he drove me crazy. |

The Office of National Health Ministries seeks to enable and empower individual Presbyterians, congregations, presbyteries and synods to understand serious mental illness and to be in ministry with persons and their families affected by this illness. We support these communities by creating educational resources, the providing of training programs and consultants.
Serious mental illness is the term used for a group of disorders causing a severe disturbance in thinking, feeling and/or relating. The results are a substantially diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life. Today in this country, approximately one in four people in all age groups are touched by mental illness. |
