On July 8th, the members of Providence Presbyterian Church, acting under our Corporate Charter, will be asked to approve a standing Board of Trustees. The Board shall consist of three members who will serve three year terms in rotation. All members are eligible to serve without regard to other offices held. That is to say, an active Elder may also serve as a Trustee. Indeed, the Board of Trustees functions under the supervision of the Session and will report to the Session. The Session has recommended this action after studying the Book of Order and discussing the needs of the church. One of the first items on the Trustees’ agenda will be seeking competitive bids for the renewing of our mortgage in September. In future years, when our balance sheet goes from negative to positive, the Trustees will manage our Endowment Funds – Oh Happy Day! Other responsibilities of the Trustees shall be to execute and hold title to all church property and the buying, selling and mortgaging of real property when so directed by the congregation. In effect, the Trustees will become the business managers for the church and will have oversight of all important documents relating to the church. It should be remembered that no activity of the Trustees shall infringe upon the authority of the congregation or the Session. Book of Order, G-7.0400. Dr. L. Jackson Taylor |
