Larry Palmer

April 15th 1936 - September 10th 2021

Larry Matthew Palmer, 85, husband of Julia Warren-Palmer, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021.

Born in Fletcher, NC, he was the son of the late T. J. and Sadie Limbaugh Palmer.

Larry will be remembered as a man who genuinely loved his family, often offering sage advice with a bit of humor. In 1983, a single Larry Palmer and a single Julia Warren met at the Sand Flea Beach Club in Greenville, SC, doing what they loved, SHAGGING! This fateful event led to marriage in 1984 and the blending of two families into a circle of unconditional love. Left to cherish his memory, off the wall wisdom, and dry whit are four sons, Larry Palmer, II, Ammon Palmer (Sue), Al Palmer (Terri) and Wilson Warren (Carsyn); daughter, Brooks Bright (Kenny); three sisters, Jo Ann White, Joyce Teungel, and Susan Russell; nine grandchildren, Stacey Palmer Allen, Matthew Palmer, Ashley DuVal, Josh Palmer, Noah Palmer, Kirby Bright, Matthew Williams, Tiare Palmer, and Selena Palmer; eight great-grandchildren, Alexis, Mason, Kyliegh, Xander, Chipper, Hensley, Zoe, and Paisley, as well as his one and only “Rose Bud,” great-great-granddaughter, Adelyn Rose.

Larry was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas, Forrest, Carolyn, and Toney.

Early in his career, Larry was known as the TV Repairman in Piedmont where he was affectionately called “Red” Palmer. Later he enjoyed a career as a professional wallpaper hanger. His greatest loves in addition to his family were shagging and vintage Corvettes. He was member of the Carolina Shag Club, the Electric City Shag Club, as well as the Greenville Area Shaggers Hall of Fame. In 1984, He and Julia had the honor of being in the room when Governor Dick Riley signed the proclamation making the Shag the official dance of South Carolina.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 13, 2021 from 6:00-8:00pm in Ellenburg Hall on the campus of Providence Presbyterian Church. A time of sharing memories, stories and shagging will take place at 6:45PM. **Per church policy, masks are required for all guests.** To honor Larry, please feel free to wear casual clothing, especially beach shirts.

The family will be at the home.
