Be sure to pick up a “Providence Pantry” reminder list in the Narthex or breezeway. You can’t miss the bright orange, laminated list of the monthly food items we want to collect for the PERC pantry. Clip this onto your refrigerator door, or put it beside your grocery list to help you remember to pick up those extra items while shopping. And if you find a bargain on something non-perishable that isn’t on the list, go ahead and bring it in. (If you need a reminder list and can’t find one, ask Linda Threatt or Sherrie Tootill for one.)
After a few weeks of respite from weekly rehearsals, our Providence Chancel Choir will begin rehearsals again on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in the choir room. We are adjusting our starting time to 7:30 which will allow anyone who wants to participate in Pastor Terri's Bible Study and Chancel Choir to do so.
We will be learning several new pieces of music to use in weekly worship, as well as continuing to explore our new hymnal "Glory to God." For Christmas this year, we will present as Service of Lessons and Carols on during Advent.
In our choir, there is always room for anyone who wishes to come to rehearsal and then sing their praises to God during Worship.
Blessings, Tim Gossett, Director of Music
Many years ago, long before he fell into the hands of the Nazis and was imprisoned for his efforts to unseat Hitler, Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote a little book titled Life Together. He wrote it for the students (all male!) in his little seminary, a group of young men who had come together to strengthen their knowledge of theology and God and Bible and, more importantly, form a community.
A life together helped to build up not only the community of faith, but also each individual within the community, Bonhoeffer believed. Together, the members of the community could be strengthened through their common faith in Jesus Christ. He wrote:
Christianity means community through Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ. No Christian community is more or less than this. Whether it be a brief, single encounter or daily fellowship of years, Christian community is only this. We belong to one another only through and in Jesus Christ (Life Together, 21).
Our church fellowship hall may be rented for special occasions such as wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, day-time retreats, family reunions, meetings, anniversary dinners, etc.
